Robert P. Hutchison, 91, a resident of Savanna, Illinois and formerly of Bettendorf, Iowa died Friday, December 17, 2004 at the Big Meadow Nursing Center in Savanna.
A private family memorial service will be held. Memorials may be made to Asbury United Methodist Church Children’s Programs, Bettendorf, the Gideons International or the Alzheimer’s Disease Association. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf is assisting the family with arrangements.
He was born September 7, 1913 in a log farmhouse near Eliza, Illinois, the son of Clarence Cecil & Adabelle (Schrock) Hutchison. On September 5, 1937, he married Doris Ruby Ruble in Roanoke, Illinois. She preceded him in death on December 5, 1995.
Bob was a 1932 graduate of Pekin (IL) High School and graduated in 1937 from Radio & Television School in Kansas City, Kansas.
He was employed as a radio engineer for Palmer Broadcasting Company of Davenport beginning in 1953 as WOC TV-Radio (now KWQC) and retired in 1990 after 37 years of service.
Bob was a charter member of Asbury United Methodist Church and served as church treasurer for many years. In addition, he was a member & past-president of the Bettendorf Lions Club since 1947, a member & past-president of the local chapter of Gideons International and a charter member of the Quad-City Alzheimer’s Association.
Those left to honor his memory include his sons & daughters-in-law, Robert C. & Mary Ann Hutchison of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, John A. & Jean Hutchison of Mt. Carroll, Richard A. & Penny Hutchison of Orion, Illinois and James & Ann Hutchison of Burlington, Wisconsin; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; his sister, Dorothy Sutter of Naples, Florida; and his brother, Elwood Hutchison of Tucson, Arizona.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his half-brother, Ivan Hutchison.
