Roger D. Hofland

March 23, 1942 — September 5, 2024

Roger D. Hofland, 82, of Maquoketa, Iowa, formerly of Bettendorf, passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2024 at Jackson Ridge Healthcare Center, Maquoketa. Graveside services will be held on Monday, October 7th at Rock Island National Cemetery. Those attending should meet at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf at 10:00 a.m. to go in procession to the cemetery. Following the service at the cemetery, there will be a visitation and luncheon at the Bettendorf VFW from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Roger was born on March 23, 1942 in Buffalo, South Dakota the son of Obid and Odella (Hill) Hofland. He moved with his family to rural Fountain City, Wisconsin in 1955. He graduated from Cochrane-Fountain City High School and later served in the U.S. Army. In 1966, Roger started working for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on Lock and Dam in Dubuque, Iowa and later in Davenport, Iowa. He retired in 1998. 

In 1973, Roger married Cindy Cremer but they were later divorced. On August 30, 1997, he married Mary Jane Sanders. When he married Mary Jane, he acquired a large extended family that cared for him the last few years. 

Those left to honor his memory are his sisters, Edwina (Duane) Wolfe and Patricia (Joe) Schoh; sisters-in-law, Margo Marks and Leatha (Joe) Hutson; an ex sister-in-law, Sonia (Dick) Page; step-daughters, Shelly (Jay) Lanser and Sheri Scheffert; special nieces and nephews, Tim Hutson, Tammy (Chuck) Norcross-Reitzler, Teri (Jeff) Hamerlinck and their children, Zach and Nick, Thomas (Jeanne) Hutson, Tony (Donna) Hutson, Ted (Jennifer) Hutson, Traci Verbrugge, Tina Lindle, and all of their families; and numerous other nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane; brother, Obid Jr.; and numerous beloved extended family members.
