Roger Leo Vogen, 68, a resident of Davenport, Iowa died Sunday, July 12, 2009 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House of Bettendorf, Iowa surrounded by his beloved family.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, July 16, 2009 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Davenport. Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel of Bettendorf. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery, Davenport at a later date. Memorials may be made to the family.
Roger was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on November 7, 1940 to Leo Joseph Vogen and Alice Elaine (Foss) Vogen.
He graduated from Oconomowoc (Wisconsin) High School and attended the University of Wisconsin prior to his marriage to Robin Vail Johnston in 1968. They had three children. Abby Vail, Robin Lee and Mathew Leo. They were divorced in 1980.
He served in the United States Army for three years receiving a United States Army commendation for service as Assistant Operations Sergeant in the Dominican Republic Revolution in 1965.
Roger worked for Keuffel & Esser Company for ten years as a sales engineer and Iowa Bearing Company for eight years, as president of the company prior to joining NSK Bearing Company as a sales manager for twelve years. He retired in 2006.
He was an avid sportsman and athlete. He played football for the University of Wisconsin Badgers football team, loved to fish and golf. Interests and loves included American history, railroad history and a fascination with the Mississippi River. He also had a passion for classical music and antique clocks and his many dogs over the years. He enjoyed tailgating and rooting for the Milwaukee Brewers and the Green Bay Packers, vacationing with family and friends in the Minoqua-St.Germain, Wisconsin area and traveling to Cape Cod and Maine with friends.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife Julia Ann who was his constant companion for many years before their marriage in 1997. His children, Abby (Edward) Horn of Hartland, Wisconsin, Robin (Kevin) Hehn of Nashotah, Wisconsin and Matthew (Sandy) Vogen of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin; his step-children, Steven (Mary) Schmitz of Belville, Wisconsin, Karen Kelly of Davenport, Iowa and Catherine (Tim) Graham of Davenport, Iowa; eleven grandchildren, Charlie & George Vogen, Dylan, Christopher & Jackson Horn, Cameron & Derek Hehn, Allison Graham, Elizabeth Schmitz and John & Ryan Kelly; his brother, Donald (Kay) Vogen of Cranberry, New Jersey; his sister-in-law, Jane Vogen of Holiday, Florida; and many nieces and nephews.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Allen John Vogen
