Roland Johnston

Roland L. Johnston, 81, of Bettendorf, Iowa, formerly of Ames, Iowa, died Saturday, December 31, 2016 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Private family services and burial will be held at Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the family. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on July 28, 1935 in Scott County, Iowa, Roland was the son of Marvin H. and Wilhelmine L. (Pries) Johnston.

Roland worked in the highway division for the Iowa Department of Transportation, in Ames, for 31 years, retiring in 1997. He enjoyed going to the “Liars Club” in Ames, a group of retired DOT employees, and spending time with his family and close friends, Chris and Anna Christofferson and Lynn and Mary Christian.

Survivors include his brother, Elvan “John” (Sandra) Johnston of Ogden, Utah; nieces, Linda (Todd Hildebrandt) Johnston of Bettendorf, Laurie (Mike) Miller of Milan, Illinois, Karen Johnston of Ogden, Utah and Kim Johnston-Mims of Florida; many great nieces and nephews, including, Natasha Lohff and her children, Coleton and Sydney, Kailee (Mitch) McCubbin and Will Hildebrandt; and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Harold; and a nephew, Timothy Johnston.
