Ronald P. Proffitt, 80, of Bettendorf, Iowa, died Sunday, June 8, 2014 at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the services on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9128 in Bettendorf.
Ron was born January 21, 1934 in Cincinnati, Iowa, the son of Elmer & Irene (Abel) Proffitt. Ron served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Ron’s brother, Bud Proffitt, had died in action while also serving in the Army. Ron was honorably discharged in 1954. On October 3, 1953, he was united in marriage to Natalie P. Miller in Mystic, Iowa.
Ron had been employed as a welder and was later self-employed with A & R Gutter in LeClaire, Iowa. He was also employed in maintenance at the Bettendorf Health Care Center.
Ron enjoyed fishing, hunting and metal detecting. He especially loved the time spent with his family.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife of sixty years, Natalie; his daughter, Alicia (Keith) Seligman of Bettendorf; his sons, Ronald “Carl” Proffitt of Bettendorf, Larry Proffitt of Centerville, Iowa and Robert “Doug” (Sharon) Proffitt of Rock Island, Illinois; his grandchildren, Gerrod (Amanda) Andresen, Jamie Andresen, Susan Douglas, Veronica Proffitt, Paul Proffitt, James Proffitt, Bradley Proffitt, Joseph (Darcie) Seligman, Kiley (Nathan) Roth and Bailey Proffitt; several great-grandchildren; two sisters; and three brothers.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Linda Huffman; his granddaughter, Rebecca Proffitt; four sisters; and two brothers.
