Rosa M. Thompson, 89, of Bettendorf, died Saturday, December 27, 2014 at the Iowa Masonic Health Facility in Bettendorf.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 3, 2015 at Asbury United Methodist Church in Bettendorf where she was a member. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the services on Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Oakdale Memorial Gardens in Davenport. Memorials may be made to Genesis Hospice.
Rosa was born October 18, 1925 in Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of Bernard & Ruth (Bliton) Carey. She was united in marriage to Richard H. Thompson on August 26, 1945 in Ames, Iowa. He preceded her in death on January 3, 2005.
Rosa was employed for 12 years as church secretary in Mt. Vernon, Iowa. She was later employed by Mr. William Bettendorf. Rosa was an active volunteer with Genesis Medical Center, East Campus and at Asbury United Methodist Church. She was an avid Bridge player and enjoyed big band music and dancing and looked forward to the Bix fest every year.
Rosa cultivated a wide circle of many friends over the years, she will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughter and son-in-law, Susan & Grant Hinton of Bettendorf; her son and daughter-in-law, Dan & Kim Thompson, of LeClaire, Iowa; her grandchildren, Amy Wagner, Christine Huddleston, Katie Thompson, Patrick (Leslie) Hinton, Jeffery Hinton and Brian Erichsen; and a great-granddaughter, Kiana Hinton
In addition to her husband, Rosa was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Mary Scroggin; and her brother, William Carey.
Rosa’s family would like to thank the loving staff at the Iowa Masonic Home for their wonderful care and support.
