Roy was born August 16, 1936 in Cullman, Alabama, the son of Jasper & Ovella (Gordon) Lindsey. He left school in the 8th grade to help his family pick cotton in Alabama. Roy had been employed by the former J.I. Case Company in Bettendorf, and later at Case International Harvester, retiring in 1991. His interests included camping, NASCAR races, attending races at Daytona Beach and Talladega and within the local race circuit and spending time with his dogs. Always known as a slow driver, Roy’s friends would remark, if in slow traffic, that Roy must be leading the pack.
Those left to honor his memory include his daughters, Jeanetta Lindsey, of Davenport and Sandra Wakeland, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; his sons, John (Beth) Lindsey, of Davenport, Stacey Lindsey, of Davenport, David Lindsey of Davenport, Randy Lindsey, of Davenport, and Pete Fretto, of Coal Valley, Illinois; nine grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Linda Rose, of Davenport, Ann Hamilton, of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Faye Coker, of Waterloo, Iowa; and his brothers, Don Lindsey, of Davenport, and Roger Lindsey, of Las Vegas.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents; his son Roy H. Lindsey, Jr.; and his special friend who he has gone to be with, Sandy Sird.
