Roy L. Crafton

Roy L. Crafton, 88, a resident of LeClaire, Iowa, died Thursday, September 14, 2006 at Genesis Medical Center-West Campus, Davenport.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, September 19, 2006 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Monday at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be conducted at Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the family.
Roy was born May 17, 1918 in Stockport, Iowa, the son of Walter & Bertha (Pickrel) Crafton. During World War II he served in the U.S. Army, where he served as a surgical technician. He was honorably discharged in June of 1945.
Roy was united in marriage to Mary L. Stewart on January 26, 1957 in Davenport, Iowa.
Roy had owned and operated a clothing store in Fairfield, Iowa until 1956. He retired from Iowa Illinois Gas and Electric Company in 1983 after seventeen years of employment.
His memberships included the Isaac Walton League, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #828 of Davenport.
He enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening, and constructing wooden whirligigs.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Mary; his daughter Connie Echevarria, of Mesa, Arizona; his son Steven Crafton, of Mesa; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; his sisters, Mildred Brown of Burlington, Iowa, Marjorie Jarms of Fairfield, Idora Crafton, of Keosauqua, Iowa, and Marilyn Rattig, and her husband, Ralph, of Weaver, Iowa; and his brother, Leonard Crafton, and his wife, Shirley, of Burlington.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter; one sister; and four brothers.
