Ruth J. Brix, 86, of Bettendorf, died Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at the Iowa Masonic Health Facility in Bettendorf.
Private family services will be held and burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Newcomb Presbyterian Church in Davenport. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home of Bettendorf is assisting the family with arrangements.
Ruth was born November 16, 1929 in Princeton, Missouri, the daughter of John L. & Ruth M. (Yingling) Holt. She was united in marriage to Dean W. Brix on September 21, 1950 in Davenport, Iowa. He preceded her in death on October 6, 2014.
Ruth worked in the accounting office at Sears Roebuck while Dean served his country in the Korean War. She and Dean then owned and operated Brix-One-Hour Cleaners in Bettendorf and Davenport for 35 years. They retired in 1996.
Ruth deeply loved her grandchildren and cherished the joy that they brought into her life. She enjoyed volunteering at Newcomb Presbyterian Church and School, where she was a member. She loved nature and would be seen most days working on her lawn and flowers as well as feeding birds and animals in her yard.
Those left to honor Ruth’s memory include her son and daughter-in-law, Jeffery & Sarah Brix of Ankeny, Iowa; her grandchildren, Catherine (Francisco) Brix, John (Heidi) Brix, Tom Brix, Dan Brix, Sarah Brix and David (Briana) Hamilton; and her sisters, Nathalie Cunningham of Mercer, Missouri and Phyllis Manchester of Sigourney, Iowa.
In addition to her husband, Dean, Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters and one brother.
