Ruth Oberlander

Ruth V. Oberlander, 94, a life-long resident of Princeton, Iowa, passed away, Sunday, September 21, 2014 at UnityPoint Trinity Rock Island Hospital.

Funeral services celebrating her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Burial will be at McCausland Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Wednesday. Memorials may be made to the family.

Born on July 22, 1920 in Princeton, Ruth was the daughter of William and Clara (Pietcher) Knuth. On August 30, 1944 in Princeton, she married Leon M. Oberlander. He preceded her in death on September 3, 1978.

Ruth was a homemaker, retiring from Bridges Catering and helped with the family farm. She was a member of the World War II Mothers and enjoyed sewing, crocheting and her card club. Ruth cherished time spent with friends and family.

Those left to honor her memory include her children, Dennis (Linda) Oberlander of Princeton and Donna Kraklio of Rock Island; foster-son, Bill (Dolores) Williams of Bettendorf; three grandchildren, Robert, Denise and Dana; and six great-grandchildren, Melissa, Jackson, Robert, Jessica, Jason and Rachel.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a great-grandson, Jacob; sister, Alvera Mohr; brother, William “Bud” Knuth; and a special friend, Al Pries.
