Sergio W. Acuahuitl-Wogomon, 13, of Davenport passed away on Sunday, July 11, 2010 at the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa surrounded by his loving family. Sergio was a two-time cancer survivor.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, July 15, 2010 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital or the Children’s Miracle Network.
Sergio was born May 6, 1997 in Silvis, Illinois, the son of Shawn & Melissa (Wagner) Wogomon. He had completed the 7th grade at J.B. Young Intermediate School in Davenport. He was a member of the Quad-City Junior Bowling League and Boy Scout Troop 103 of Davenport. Sergio had also been active in soccer with the Dad’s Club.
A strong member of his community, Sergio always had a smile on his face and was able to uplift anyone’s spirit. He was an amazing big brother, loved to tell jokes, was a fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and enjoyed music and dancing. He was active in blood drives for the Mississippi Valley Blood Center. Sergio also gave speeches on behalf of all children with Leukemia and the Children’s Hospital in Iowa City.
Those left to honor his memory include his parents, Melissa & Shawn, of Davenport; his sister, McKenzey; his grandparents, Judie (Don B.) Hazen, of Yuma, Arizona, Lyle (Colleen) Wogomon, of Blue Grass, Iowa, and Susan (Jack) Kaskadden, of Port Byron, Illinois; his aunts, Kathie Lorscheider, of Ozark, Missouri, Maggie Seefeldt, of Bettendorf, Michelle Pralle, of Blue Grass and Cristine (Tim Porter) Wagner, of Davenport; and his cousins, Lindsey & Grant Lorscheider, of Ozark, Skylar & Lilee Porter, of Davenport and Ella Nesham, of Blue Grass.
Sergio was preceded in death by his grandfather, Donald Hazen, Sr.; his great-grandparents, Wayne & Nancy Wagenknecht; and all children whom now have their angel wings that had had cancer before him.
The family would like to express special thanks to their friends at the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital for all their care and concern during the past two years.
