Shari L. Karnstedt, 67, of Eldridge, Iowa, died Saturday, June 28, 2008 at Genesis Medical Center-East Campus, Davenport.
A memorial service will be held at 6:30 P.M., Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at the Eldridge United Methodist Church with visitation preceded from 5:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. for family and friends. Memorial funds have been set up and include the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation.
Sharon LaVon Reinier was born April 15, 1941 in Rock Island, Illinois to Joseph & Lois (Graham) Reinier. She graduated from Richland High School in 1959 and went on to cosmetology school. She first married Jim Richardson of Ottumwa, Iowa in 1961. They divorced and remained friends. She later married John H. Karnstedt on August 15, 1974 in Minnesota. They moved from Pella, Iowa to Eldridge in 1990.
In December 1997, she became a quadriplegic after a one-car accident on black ice. She faced her life-changing ordeal with grace, dignity and courage. She was a member of Eldridge United Methodist Church. Her passions included flower gardening, caring for her wild birds and being involved with her family.
Shari was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Those left to honor her memory include her husband and best friend of 33 years, John; three daughters, Kimberly (Mike) Booth of New Hampton, Iowa, Kortney (Mark) McDermott, of Bettendorf, and Jill (John) Yard of Lake George, New York; two sons, Kurt (Holly) Richardson of Pella and Kent Richardson of Fort Collins, Colorado; eight grandchildren, one great-grandson; her sister and brother-in-law, Karen & Bob Voelkel of Eldridge; four nieces and nephews; and seventeen great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
