Shirley Brockhouse

Shirley Ann Brockhouse, 87, of Bettendorf and formerly of Pleasant Valley, Iowa passed away peacefully Monday, January 23, 2023, at Select Specialty Hospital, Davenport.

A memorial service will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, February 4, 2023 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Pleasant Valley.  There will be a luncheon immediately following the service. Family will greet friends on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to service time at the church.  Inurnment will take place at Pleasant Valley Cemetery.

Shirley was born November 3, 1935, in Hawkeye, IA, the daughter of Marvin and Hazel (Book) Burkhart. After graduating high school in 1954, she moved to Cedar Rapids to attend Secretarial School. Shirley and Ken met in Cedar Rapids.  On September 7, 1958, She was united in marriage to Kenneth Walter Brockhouse in Hawkeye.  He preceded her in death on November 9, 2014.

In 2018, Shirley moved to The Fountains (independent living) where she made many wonderful friends and enjoyed the activities there.  She was especially excited about playing in the Wii Bowling tournament.

Shirley was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and served on many committees, a member of the Liedertaufel, Buffalo Bill Museum, Plus 60 Club, LeClaire Civic Club, and served as Past-President of Scott County Farm Bureau. She enjoyed traveling, playing cards and spending time with family.  She absolutely loved playing Skip-Bo and Rummikub with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughters, Julie (Simon) Hughes of Gurnee, IL, Jodi (Bill) Osborn of Winter Haven, FL, Tina (Charles) O’Brien of Hoffman Estates, IL; sons, Barry (Lori) Brockhouse of Riverdale, IA, Scott Brockhouse of Davenport, IA, Bryan Brockhouse of Pleasant Valley, IA, nine grandchildren; Elizabeth, Brandi, Bailey, Angela, Levi, Aaron, Derek, Emily, Lauren, great-granddaughter; Raegan, and sister; Marilyn Wedemeier of Hawkeye.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
