Shirley George

Shirley J. George, 81, of Davenport, died Friday, December 16, 2016 at Genesis Medical Center, West Central Park in Davenport.

Funeral services celebrating her life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Burial will be at Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 21st from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Born on May 23, 1935 in Des Moines, Shirley was the daughter of Paul and Lucile (Lydon) Johnston. On September 3, 1955 in Davenport, she married Dallas L. George. He preceded her in death on June 14, 2000.

Shirley worked as an accountant for George Brothers and as a cashier for Hobby Lobby. She cherished time spent with her family.

Those left to honor her memory include her children and their spouses, Michael and Jean George of Bettendorf, Daynee and Michael Luchner of Davenport, Patti and Kevin Kreiter of Davenport and Tami and Brad Thurston of Davenport; grandchildren, Sarah Luze, Jason George, Brianne (Dan) Newman, Scott (Danielle) Luchner, Nicole (Greg) Glines, Kirk Kreiter, Jesse Kreiter, Joshua Thurston, Alycia (Philip) Tolman and Dainie Thurston; nine great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild on the way; and her brother, Larry (Carol) Johnston of Davenport.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters, Donna, Phyllis and Lorna.
