Shirley Newton

Shirley J. Newton, of Bettendorf, Iowa, died Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, February 13, 2016 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.  Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery in Davenport, Iowa.

Shirley was born on May 15, 1941 in New Cambria, Missouri, the daughter of Delbert Wesley & Helen Louise (Sartain) Mallett.  She was a graduate of New Cambria High School.  She was united in marriage to Donald Newton on April 6, 1963 in Macon, Missouri.

Shirley’s employment included Pizza Hut, the Bettendorf School District, Macon Sanatorium and the Rock Island Arsenal.  She enjoyed books and word puzzles and spending time with her grandkids, great-grandkids and her family.

Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Don; her daughters, Martha Lovell of Davenport and Donna Newton of Bettendorf; her son, Mike Newton of Bettendorf; her grandchildren, Lexie, Anthony and Alyssa; her great-grandchildren, Brice, Jordan and Skylar; her sisters, Doris Riley, Beverly Greenwell, Linda Brant, Glenda Wisdom and Brenda Primrose, all of Macon; her brothers, Delbert Mallett of Macon, Richard Mallett of Callao, Missouri and Frankie Mallett of Bevier, Missouri.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Joanne Grove and her brothers, Dean and Bob Mallett.
