Shirley Mae Petersen, 76, a resident or Riverdale, Iowa died Saturday, June 2, 2012 at her home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Bettendorf, Iowa.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf.  Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery, Clinton, Iowa.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

Shirley was born December 20, 1935 in Fort Madison, Iowa the daughter of Richard and Beatrice (Herr) Hart.  She graduated from the Mt. St. Claire Academy in Clinton in 1954.  She was united in marriage to Stanley L. Petersen on July 21, 1956 in Clinton.

Shirley worked as the manager at Fannie May Candies in Bettendorf retiring in 1993.  She was a member of the Women’s Health Initiative and was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes for forty-two years.            She enjoyed volunteer work at church, singing in the church choir, gardening, growing African Violets and loved cooking for her family.  She loved her family very much and always put others before herself.

Those left to honor her family include her husband, Stanley, Riverdale; her daughter, Nancy (Jerry) Shryack, Bettendorf; her son, Michael (Barbara) Petersen, Bettendorf; her grandchildren, Chad and Christopher; her brother, Gary (Karen) Hart, Clinton; her sister-in-law Joyce Hart, Clinton and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Duane Hart.
