Shirley Marie (Glynn) Rucker, 91, a life-long resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Thursday, December 05, 2013 at her home.
Her funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:30 A.M. on Monday, December 9, 2013 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church where she was a long-time and faithful member. She will be laid to rest at Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:30 P.M. to 4:30 P.M. on Sunday, December 8, 2013 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Please wear casual attire as that is the way Shirley would like it. Memorials may be made to the Scott County Humane Society, Hospice Compassus, or Bettendorf Parkboard Foundation.
She was born on August 24, 1922 in Davenport, Iowa, the daughter of William & Angie (Schmitz) Glynn. On June 8, 1969, she was united in marriage to Robert E. “Bob” Rucker in Bettendorf. He preceded her in death on February 14, 1995.
Shirley was employed as a sales representative for the L.C. Williams Company for many years where she sold Christmas decorations to cities throughout Iowa and Illinois. In addition to the church, she was a member of the St. Patrick Society of the Quad-Cities, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary of Bettendorf and was a 20 year member of the Bettendorf Park Board Foundation where she was recently honored with a Life-Time Achievement Award.
She was an active volunteer at the church, helping with countless funeral lunches over the years. She also volunteered for many years at the Festival of Trees. The Iowa Hawkeyes were a favorite along with many other spectator sports. Her beloved family and many friends were the center of her life and she will always be fondly remembered by those who knew and loved her.
Those left to honor her memory include her son & daughter-in-law, Scott & Joyce Rocker of Bettendorf; her grandchildren, Michael Hathaway of Denver, Colorado, Megan Rocker (Patrick) Gerst of Oakdale, Minnesota and Zach Rocker of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; her brother, Jim (Helen) Glynn of Bettendorf; and many other relatives and wonderful friends.
In addition to her husband, Shirley was preceded in death by her son, Charles Rocker; her sisters, Katherine Johnson and Mickie Hutchings; and her brothers, Bill Glynn, Dick Glynn and Jack Glynn.
