Shirley Schumacher, 78, a resident of Portland, Oregon and formerly of Pleasant Valley, Iowa, died Thursday, August 28, 2014 at Hopewell House in Portland.
Funeral Services and Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 6, 2014 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Bettendorf. A memorial visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday evening at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Pleasant Valley, Iowa. Memorials may be made to the family.
Shirley was born May 25, 1936, in Eagle Grove, Iowa, the daughter of Clifford & Shirley (Horton) Withers. She was united in marriage to Carrol E. Schumacher on December 21, 1957, in Ames, Iowa. He preceded her in death on August 11, 1993.
A devoted mother, loving wife, and joy to those around her, Shirley worked as a teacher of kindergarten and first grade, a grocery clerk, and a housewife.
Those left to honor her memory include four children; two grandchildren; two sisters; two brothers; and one great-granddaughter.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, and one granddaughter.
