Shirley A. Schwerdtfeger, 72, of New Boston, Illinois, passed away Thursday, February 15, 2018 at Genesis Medical Center in Aledo, Illinois.
Her visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Graveside services will follow at McCausland Cemetery in McCausland, Iowa. Memorials may be made to the family.
Shirley was born January 6, 1946 in DeWitt, Iowa, a daughter of Joseph & Gloria “Tootie” (Stutzel) Pool. She graduated from North Scott High School in 1964. She continued her education at Clinton Community College to receive her C.N.A. certificate and worked in DeWitt and Clinton hospitals as an Aide.
She also worked in the automotive industry and other various jobs. Shirley was soon married and had three children. When her husband left, she became a stay-at-home mother and moved to Rock Island, Illinois in 1980.
She met the love of her life, Alfred W. Schwerdtfeger in 1984 and they were united in marriage on November 15, 1988 in Springfield, Ohio.
Shirley and Al worked and traveled overseas and throughout the United States. They enjoyed their family and lives seeing many beautiful things of history and nature, visiting with family and friends and making new friends.
Shirley enjoyed knitting, dancing and the German club where she and Al spent a great deal of time meeting others and enjoying the heritage and lifestyle of the German culture. They spent many years traveling back and forth to Iowa and Illinois to visit friends and family for holidays, birthdays, parties and graduations.
Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Al; her sons and daughters-in-law, Dorrian & Lisa Wilkins of Exline, Iowa and Royce & Moira Wilkins of Moline, Illinois; eight grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Geri & Steve Brehmer and Vicki & Larry Marshall, all of McCausland; her brother and sister-in-law, Lonnie & Terri Pool of Bettendorf; four nieces; and two nephews.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; and her daughter, Stacie Lynn Fothergill.
