Shirley Van Sant

Shirley Jeanette (Hintze) Van Sant, 90, of Davenport, Iowa, died Monday, June 27, 2016 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus in Davenport.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 2, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park following the service. Memorials may be made to Newcomb Presbyterian Church of Davenport.
Born March 30, 1926 in Bettendorf, the third child of William and Ottillie (Lemcke) Hintze, Shirley graduated from Davenport High School as a member of the class of 1944. She was united in marriage to Roy W. Van Sant on September 12, 1947. Roy and Shirley owned and operated Van Sant Excavating of Bettendorf. He preceded her in death on September 29, 1996.
Shirley bowled for over 55 years, and loved to play cards belonging to several card clubs. She enjoyed the Class of ’44 luncheons with her friends. Also, she was a diehard Chicago Cubs fan even listening to them the day before she died. Shirley enjoyed watching Iowa Hawkeyes football and basketball and Chicago Bears games.
Those left to honor Shirley’s memory include her three children Ron (Lori) Van Sant of Blue Grass, Iowa, Jerry (Debra) Van Sant of LeClaire, Iowa and Sandra (Mike) Luse of Davenport; six grandchildren, Emmy McDannald, Danny Van Sant, Randy Van Sant, David Luse, Laura Williams, and Tina Luse; four step-grandchildren, Jeff, Justin, Brock, and Brad; many great-grandchildren; and brothers, Marvin and Lawrence Hintze of Bettendorf.
In addition to her husband Roy, Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; daughter-in-law, Pat; sister, Jackie Richardson; and brothers, William and Richard Hintze. .
