Shirley A. Wadle, 72, of Bettendorf, passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2013 at her home, with her family by her side.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 8, 2013 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Bettendorf. Burial will be at Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 7 th at the church. Memorials may be made to St. John Vianney Catholic Church – Haiti Commission, the Kahl Home or Genesis Hospice.
Shirley was born on March 7, 1941 in Milo, Iowa, the daughter of Louis and Eva (Johns) Howe. On May 9, 1959 at Rosemount Church, rural Milo, she married James “Jim” Wadle.
Shirley loved being a wife, mother and grandmother. She also worked as a patient transporter for the former Mercy Hospital in Davenport. Shirley was very active at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, volunteering with Bettendorf Health Care Center and giving elderly members rides to church for Sunday mass. She served on the Catholic Service Board starting in 2002, leaving this past May due to health concerns. Shirley was very involved with Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center, donating blood and platelets along with volunteering as a driver, making trips to Iowa City. She enjoyed sewing and cherished the time spent with her family.
Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Jim Wadle; daughter MiChelle (Mike) Carl of Bettendorf; sons, Kevin (Amy Olson) Wadle of Louisville, KY, Chris (Molly Mahoney) Wadle of Bettendorf, Stephen (Mary) Wadle of Beloit, WI; eight grandchildren, Jeffrey (Natalie), Joshua (Patty), Angela (Kyle), Gabrielle, Elizabeth, Andrew, Nicholas and Claire; sister, Patsy Mart of Bettendorf; and brothers, Bob (Irene) Howe of Newton and Gene (Sharon) Howe of Milo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; father and mother-in-law, Leonard and Irene Wadle; brothers-in-law, Jack Wadle and Al Mart; two nieces, Ann Mart and Sophia Kahn.
