SSgt. Regan M. Smith, 31, of Queens, New York and formerly of Bettendorf, Iowa and Ankeny, Iowa, passed away on Friday, September 21, 2018 at her home.
Her memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, October 5, 2018 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the services on Friday at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be at Rock Island National Cemetery in Rock Island, Illinois. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Lone Star Bulldog Club Rescue, safehorizon.com (a non-profit organization providing assistance for victims of violent crimes) or to the VA Voluntary Service.
Regan was born February 28, 1987 in Davenport, Iowa, the daughter of Dennis & Jamie (Miller) Smith.
She was a graduate of Ankeny High School where she joined the Army National Guard during her junior year. After graduation from high school, she attended her Advanced Individual Training (AIT) at Fort Lee, Virginia. Regan had moved to New York state in 2006 and was most recently assigned to the 105th Airlift Wing of the New York Air National Guard at Stewart Air National Guard Base in Newburgh, New York.
Regan enjoyed extensive traveling with a close group of friends. She was an original member of the Long Island City Frenchies Community and was active in other French Bulldog communities in the New York area.
Those left to honor her memory include her mother, Jamie Miller-Smith of Ankeny; her father, Dennis (Cheryl) Smith of Bettendorf; her brother, Justin Smith of Des Moines, Iowa; her grandparents, John F. & Dorice Miller of Davenport and Marilyn Smith of Keosauqua, Iowa; her step-brothers, Tony Stopoulos of Bettendorf and Thomas Stopoulos of Davenport; her aunts and uncles, Julie Myers, John R. (Jane) Miller, Jodie Taylor, Jackie Miller, Anita (David) Miller, Kendall Smith, Bobbie (John) Walker, David Perkins, Penny (Matt) Rueter and Wayne (Denise) Perkins; many nieces and nephews; a cadre of close friends, both military and civilian in the New York area; and her two beloved French bulldogs, Harvey & Biggie.
Regan was preceded in death by her grandfather, Keith Smith; her aunt Susan Miller; and her uncle, Dan Perkins.
