Stanley R. Smith, 87, of LeClaire, died Saturday, December 27, 2008 at Riverview Manor, Pleasant Valley.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at LeClaire Baptist Church, LeClaire. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Monday at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery, LeClaire. Memorials may be made to the church or to the Roving Volunteers in Christ’s Service, of which Stan was a member.
Stan was born November 15, 1921 in Taloga, Oklahoma, the son of James O. & Lillian N. (Rogers) Smith. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth J. Siler on June 21, 1947 in Beloit, Wisconsin. She preceded him in death on November 4, 2005. During World War II, he served in the United States Army as a First Lieutenant and was honorably discharged.
Stan was employed with Eagle Signal for over 40 years. He also founded Smith’s Engine Service in 1961. Stan and Elizabeth enjoyed traveling for many years, having visited all 50 states.
Those left to honor his memory include his sons and daughters-in-law, Greg (Donna) Smith, of Amana, Iowa, Duane (Susan) Smith and Jeff Smith, of LeClaire; 5 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Jean Dunlap, of Muskogee, Oklahoma.
In addition to his wife, Elizabeth, Stan was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; and one brother.
