Stuart W. Knox, 81, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa and formerly of Hart, Michigan died Monday, March 8, 2010 at Pathway Hospice Trinity at Terrace Park, Bettendorf.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, March 12, 2010 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Quad City Animal Welfare Center, 724 W. 2nd Ave. Milan, Illinois.
Stuart was born May 6, 1928 in Aledo, Illinois the son of A. Earl & Esther (Terry) Knox. He graduated from Aledo High School in 1946. He then joined the United States Army. He served as a Cartographer on General Macarthur’s Staff in Tokyo during the Korean Conflict. On February 6, 1960 he was united in marriage to June E. Greenwood in Oak Park, Illinois.
Stuart worked in sales for Bearing Headquarters in Broadview, Illinois. Later he and his wife June purchased and operated the Hart Motel in Hart, Michigan.
Stuart was a charter member of the Hart, Michigan Lions Club and continued his service with the Lions after relocating to Bettendorf. He was a member at Ultimate Fitness and had many friends there. He and June were also longtime volunteers at the Quad City Animal Welfare Center, Milan, Illinois.
He loved taking care of dogs and volunteering his time to help others. In his younger years he enjoyed taking winter snowmobile safari’s with the guests at the hotel.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, June, Bettendorf, Iowa; his son, Byron (Rose) Hernbrott, Berwyn, Illinois; his brother, Bill (Marilyn) Knox, Mount Pleasant, Iowa; his nieces, Joann, Debbie and Kelly and his nephews, David and Kevin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Bob Knox, his sister-in-law, Shirley Knox and his niece, Kathy.
