Svea N. Bush, 101, of Bettendorf, died Sunday, January 25, 2015 at the Iowa Masonic Health Facility in Bettendorf.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 29, 2015 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Davenport. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the services on Thursday at the church. Committal services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday at Sunset Memorial Park in Danville, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the Iowa Masonic Health Facility.
Svea was born August 28, 1913 in Wilmette, Illinois, the daughter of David E. & Jennie (Johnson) Nord. She was united in marriage to James R. Bush on April 8, 1938 in Evanston, Illinois. He preceded her in death on April 26, 2001.
Svea taught elementary school for many years in Danville and had an avid interest in the 'fiber arts' - hand weaving, spinning wool, and making delicate lace. She was a member of the Order of the Easter Star, Daughter of the Nile and numerous hand weaving societies and guilds. Her memberships included Asbury United Methodist Church in Bettendorf, St. James United Methodist Church in Danville and Retired Teachers of Illinois.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughter, Karen Shirk of Plymouth, Indiana; her son and daughter-in-law, James & Janet Bush Jr. of Bettendorf; nine grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; and a foster daughter, Rose Chong of San Francisco, California.
In addition to her husband, Svea was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Groetchen Martin in 1975; and a foster daughter, Elsie Gee.
