Teresa Masters Sorensen, 53, a resident of Moline, Illinois passed away peacefully in her sleep Friday, February 6, 2004 at home after a courageous 9-month battle with cancer.
A Celebration of her life will be held from 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 10, 2004 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel in Bettendorf, Iowa. Memorials may be made to Gilda’s Club of the Quad-Cities.
Teresa Hough was born April 30, 1950 in East Moline, Illinois to Merrel & Marion (Williams) Hough. She graduated from United Township High School in 1968 and later attended BlackHawk College where she attained an associate of Arts degree in Accounting.
In the early 1970,s, she traveled the western states as a magician’s assistant and farmed in the Delmar, Iowa area. She married Eugene Masters, a former Moline alderman, in 1977. Together they raised two sons, Tyler & Todd Masters. Teresa and Gene provided family counciling at Unitarian churches throughout the midwest. Gene passed away in 1995. She later met her husband, Bruce W. Sorensen in 1999 and they were married in Valrico, Florida on New Year’s Day of 2003.
Teresa worked for many years as a computer systems educator for McGladrey & Pullin in Davenport. Later, she was Office Manager for Edward Jones Investments in Davenport and in 1998, joined John Deere Harvester Works, where she worked in Supply Management and Accounting until she became ill in May of 2003.
Teresa was a very special person with many interests. Everyone she met was charmed by her warm smile and caring personality. Her bargain shopping skills were legendary among her friends and family. She loved collecting antiques and had a large library of 1st edition books. She also collected ceramic figurines and women’s shoes. Teresa enjoyed attending drag racing events, Summerfests in Milwaukee, socializing with friends at the East Village in Davenport and was a regular winner of prizes at local Friday Fest events. In recent years, Teresa took up crocheting and gardening at home. She loved flowers and took great pride in her yard. She was especially fond of her dogs, Petey, Alex and Odie and Katie the cat.
She is survived by her husband, Bruce; sisters, Vicki Hicks of Dubuque, Iowa and Shelagh (and Bob) Barbour of Cary, North Carolina; her brother, Stan (and Wanda) Hough of Barstow, Illinois; her parents, Merrel & Marion Hough of Cambells Island, Illinois; her sons, Tyler Masters of Moline and Todd (and Heather) Masters of Milan, Illinois; her 2 grandsons, Maison & Micah Masters; and many nieces and nephews. Also, Teresa leaves behind many friends who touched her life with love and kindness.
The family would like to express a special thanks to Dr. Jason Suh and his wonderful staff at Medical Arts Associates for their kindness and support throughout Teresa’s illness. God has called her home early, surely to help him take care of all the puppies in heaven. Amen.
