Terry K. Piatt, 71, a resident of Bettendorf, died Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at Trinity Pathway Hospice in Bettendorf.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, April 23, 2011 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Vera French Center or to the family.
Terry was born May 10, 1939 in Iowa City, Iowa, the second of four sons and brother to one daughter of Eugene True & Dorothea Marie (Wiese) Piatt. He attended Bettendorf schools and graduated in 1957 from Bettendorf High School.
Terry was united in marriage to the love of his life, Carol Lee Fischer on August 19, 1961 at the First Christian Church of Davenport. She preceded him in death on February 6, 2010.
Terry became an apprentice machinist at the Rock Island Arsenal in 1960 and graduated in 1964 as a gear cutting machinist. In 1968 he became an Equipment Specialist and subsequently a Technical Representative in Viet Nam in 1969.
In 1973, accompanied by his wife and daughters, he served as a Field Maintenance Technician with the 1 st Armored Division in Nurnberg, Germany. After serving as a Logistics Assistance Representative in Fort Knox, Kentucky, Terry returned to the Rock Island Arsenal where he was employed until his retirement on April 2, 1992.
From 1992 until 2001, he was a part-time sales associate and clock repairman at Wayne Montgomery in Davenport, working alongside his sister, DeEtta.
Terry was proud of his career and he had travelled extensively throughout the United States, Germany, Luxembourg and Jordan. Most importantly, he deeply loved his family and will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother.
Those left to honor his memory include his daughters, Valerie (William) Bain of Owatonna, Minnesota and Michelle Piatt and her significant other, Randy Waeyaert of Bettendorf; his very special grandchildren, Nathan Bain, Brandy (Willie) Parks and Tyler Waeyaert of Bettendorf and Becky Bain and her significant other, Scott Kreeger of Owatonna; his very special great-grandchildren, Justina Parks, Willie Lee (Lil’ Will) Parks, III, Carlene (Carly) Parks, Evyn and Rachel Stull and Leo Kreeger; his brothers, Dean (Donna) Piatt and Rick (Lori) Piatt of Davenport; and a multitude of nieces and nephews.
Terry was preceded in death by his loving wife, Carol; his parents; his brother, Wayne; his sister, DeEtta Montgomery; and his grandchildren, Travis & Heather Bain.
