Thelma Elaine Swisher, 77, a resident of Davenport, Iowa died on Sunday, May 3, 2009 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus in Davenport.
Her funeral service will be held at 6:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel in Bettendorf, Iowa. Visitation will be from 3:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. Private family burial will be at the Rock Island National Cemetery.
She was born April 13, 1932 in St. Elmo, Illinois, the daughter of Howard & Effie (Mattix) Kruse. On October 23, 1950, she was united in marriage to Glenn D. Swisher in Shelbyville, Illinois. He preceded her in death on August 13, 1991.
Thelma was employed part-time at the Casey’s General Store in Davenport and in earlier years, worked for Brammer Manufacturing of Davenport for 28 years, retiring in 1991.
She was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church of Davenport and was an avid TV buff.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughter, Victoria (Don) Welch of Mountain Home, Arkanasa; her sons, Anthony (Julie) Swisher of Davenport, Steve (Janet) Swisher of Blue Grass, Iowa/Lynwood, Illinois, Gary (Chris) Swisher of Davenport, Brian (Cherie) Swisher of Davenport and Greg (Doreen Cook) Swisher of Davenport; eleven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; her sisters, Roselyn Jones and Darlene Winters, both of Assumption, Illinois and Dorothy Green of Springfield, Illinois; her brother, Eugene Kruse of Atlanta, Illinois; her special sister-in-law, Barb Kruse of Pana, Illinois; and her very special friend, Rose Corbett of Davenport.
In addition to her husband, Thelma was preceded in death by her brother, Raymond Kruse; and her granddaughter, Bailey Swisher.
