Thelma Irene Stewart, 89, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Sunday, August 1, 2010 at the Clarissa Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf.
Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, August 13, 2010 at Asbury United Methodist Church of Bettendorf. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 9:30 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. Friday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Asbury United Methodist Church or the Clarissa Cook Hospice House. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home of Bettendorf is assisting the family with arrangements.
She was born September 9, 1920 in Curran, Illinois, the daughter of Lee Roy & Fern Alta (Hinds) Hohimer. On August 14, 1942, she was united in marriage to James E. Stewart in St. Louis, Missouri. He preceded her in death on August 26, 2009.
Thelma was a longtime & faithful member of Asbury United Methodist Church where she was a life-member of the United Methodist Women, an active member of the Ruth Circle and a member of the United Methodist Women’s Society. Thelma & Jim spent many enjoyable & warm winters in Arizona where they regularly attended the United Methodist Church of Casa Grande, Arizona.
In addition to her church activities, she was a member of the P.E.O. Chapter G.W. since 1978, a former member of the T.T.T. Society and was active in four different bridge groups.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughters, Martha (Robert) Bower of Hope, Rhode Island and Mary (Michael) Dolan of Newton, New Jersey; her grandchildren, Mathew Bower, Seth Bower and Trevor Dolan; and eight beloved nieces & nephews.
In addition to her husband, Thelma was preceded in death by her sister, Claudia Bush and her brother, Oran Hohimer.
