Tom was born on St. Patrick’s Day 1977 in Davenport, the son of Randy & Rhonda (Bowman) Brockhouse. A 1995 graduate of North Scott High School in Eldridge, Tom led the North Scott Lancer Cross Country team and was 2 nd in state, earning the Bernie Saggau award. A near-fatal car accident at age 16 left him severely injured.
Leading a life of glory and pain, Tom graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in Engineering in 1999. 2 nd and 3 rd car accidents which had claimed the life of his friend, Laura Walker and kept him briefly at home after graduating ISU, Tom left for greener pastures in California. He accepted a career in mechanical engineering, putting bids together for contracts including major schools, hospitals and Los Angeles Int’l Airport.
Tom was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocyte Leukemia in December of 2013. He fought an amazing battle and was positive that even a bone marrow transplant would be the miracle.
Tom was a dedicated Cyclones fan and a patriot to his country, honored to visit the grave of the Unknown Soldier in Washington D.C. Another highlight of his life was visiting Europe and the grave of Jim Morrison in Paris.
A humble gentleman, he participated in recycling and natural foods. Having led a simple, peaceful life in LA, he did not complain of his struggles, but worked his way through them.
Tommy’s parents, sister, family & friends grieve his loss. He taught those around him about living in the moment. Fearing nothing, he believed in all that was good and he is running free once again without sore ankles or a frail body, but as the true champion that he is.
Those left to honor his memory include his parents, Randy & Rhonda, his sister, Sara, his nephew, Peyton, his niece, Lily, all of LeClaire; his grandmother, Janet Bowman, of Eldridge; and many wonderful aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ron Bowman of Eldridge and Joyce & Earl Brockhouse of Princeton.
