Thomas M. Cosner, 52, of Park View, Iowa, died Monday, February 18, 2013 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus in Davenport.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, February 22, 2013 at McCausland United Methodist Church in McCausland, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at Chambers Funeral Home in Eldridge. Burial with full military honors will be held at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family to benefit Tom’s childrens’ educations.
Tom was born January 30, 1961 in Davenport, the son of Charles & Nancy (Jamison) Cosner and was a 1979 graduate of North Scott High School. He retired from the United States Navy in 1993 and had served during the Gulf War. For his service, he was awarded the Navy Unit Commendation and two bronze stars while serving in Southwest Asia.
After his honorable discharge, he was a Hospital Navy Corpsman and continued his health care service with the Veterans’ Administration Hospital in Iowa City until 2007. He most recently was with the VA Clinic in Bettendorf.
Tom was also a Master Mason and will be remembered as a proud father to his children and a great friend to all. Tom was an inspiration to so many.
Those left to honor his memory include his children, Kristina Cosner and her fiancé, Michael Shepard of Daytona, Florida, Michael Cosner of Arlington Heights, Illinois and Samantha Cosner of Iowa City, Iowa; his parents, Charles & Nancy of McCausland, Iowa; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Tim & Sheryl Cosner of Eldridge and Mark & Amy Cosner of Chillicothe, Illinois; his niece, Sydnee Cosner of Eldridge; his nephews, Nathanael & Tyler Cosner of Eldridge and Ryan & Henry Cosner of Chillicothe; his aunt, Lilah Hughes of Davenport; and his uncles, John (Carmen) Jamison of Wyoming, Iowa and Jerry Foran of Bettendorf.
Tom was preceded in death by his grandparents and his aunt, Marjorie Ardelean.
