Thomas W. Gaskey, Jr., 63 of Davenport, passed away Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus in Davenport.

Funeral services celebrating his life will be at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, August 20, 2012 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf.  Burial with full military honors will be at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services on Monday.  A memorial has been established in his memory for various veteran organizations.

Born on October 23, 1948 in Davenport, he was the son of Thomas W. Sr. and Bernice (Downing) Gaskey. On June 27, 1970 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Bettendorf, he married his beautiful bride Sharon Mulcahy.

Thomas served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War from August 1966 – April 1970. He was a Purple Heart recipient along with other service medals and ribbons.

Thomas was a semi-truck driver for Gless Bros. for over 20 years. He was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Davenport, Elks Lodge #298 in Davenport, American Legion Post #26 in Davenport, Bettendorf VFW Post #9128, and Brothers of the Third Wheel. Thomas enjoyed bowling, golfing, camping and vacationing in his RV.  He was an avid fan of NASCAR, Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears and the Iowa Hawkeyes, especially basketball.   Thomas was involved in the Hoop Shoot in Davenport and helped with Bingo for the Elks Lodge. He also was involved in delivering dictionaries to public schools. Thomas loved spoiling his wife and spending time with his children and grandchildren, watching their activities.

Those left to honor his memory include his beautiful bride, Sharon Gaskey; two daughters, Tabbatha (Brent Mirfield) Gilbert and Marika Rosenboom, both of Davenport; one son, Thomas W. (Danielle) Gaskey, III of Davenport; ten grandchildren, Austin, Miranda, Marika, Mackenzie, Blake, Hunter, Madeline, Neal, Mason and Thomas W. IV; three sisters, Sharon Mitchell of Des Moines, Mary Lou Schroeder of Fontana, CA and Linda (Ron) Williams of Davenport; one brother, James Gaskey of Davenport.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
