Thomas C. Ehredt, 81, a resident of Bettendorf, died Saturday, September 18, 2010 at Trinity Bettendorf.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Visitation will be on Monday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in McCausland Cemetery, McCausland, Iowa. Memorials may be made to the Riverdale Volunteer Fire Department.
Tom was born May 11, 1929 in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Howard H. & Loretta M. (Everhart) Ehredt.
He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps at the end of World War II. Upon his honorable discharge, he then signed a contract with the Chicago Cubs to attend spring training in 1950, but before the season was to begin, he was recalled to duty in the Marine Corps during the Korean War. Upon his return, he went to work for Riverside Foundry which later became Sivyer Steel as paymaster.
Tom was united in marriage to Thelma M. Carber on October 19, 1963 in Bettendorf.
He served on the town council for Riverdale for five years and the planning & zoning committee for fifteen years. He also wrote a weekly newspaper column about hunting and fishing for fifteen years. Tom was also co-founder of the Quad-City Bass Club and he served on the Ducks Unlimited committee for fifteen years. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 154 in Bettendorf and had recently received his 50 year certificate.
Tom enjoyed hunting and fishing and he was known as “the Winemaker.” Tom would make and bottle many varieties of wine that he would share with friends and family.
Those left to honor his memory include his beloved wife, Thelma; his daughter and son-in-law, Laura Lyn & Paul Steward of Long Grove, Iowa; his grandson, Mark Steward of Long Grove; his brothers, Richard Ehredt of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin and James Ehredt of Clinton; his sister, Emily Delaney of DeWitt, Iowa; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters Alice Nemmers and Jean Cook; and his brother, Robert.
