Thomas P. Hughes, 88, a resident of Tucson, Arizona and formerly of Bettendorf, Iowa died Sunday, August 15, 2004 at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M. Wednesday, August 22, 2004 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf, Iowa. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Make A Wish Foundation or to the Salvation Army.
He was born October 12, 1915 in Seymour, Iowa, the son of s. Percy & Lucy E. (Thomas) Hughes. On September 21, 1940, he was united in marriage to Opal E. Seymour in Davenport. She preceded him in death on September 24, 1991.
Tom retired in 1976 as Traffic Manager for the International Harvester Company of Melrose Park, Illinois where he had been employed for 38 years.
He was a former member of Westown’s Traffic Club and had attended Asbury United Methodist Church of Bettendorf.
Those left to honor his memory include his sisters & brothers-in-law, Bernace & Ed Kerwin of Seymour, Iowa and Reva & Jim Anderson of Pella, Iowa; his brothers & sister-in-law, Keith & Jean Hughes of Casper, Wyoming and Bert Hughes of Tacoma, Washington; and several nieces & nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in dath by his sisters, Iris Merritt and Lela Hughes; his brother, Jack Hughes; and his parents.
