Timothy J. Spear, 62, of Long Grove, Iowa, died Thursday, December 31, 2009 at Genesis Medical Center-East Campus, Davenport.
Celebration of Life services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Sunday, January 17, 2010 at Lady Di’s in Park View, Iowa. Additional services will be held in Pennsylvania. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Carl Jacobsen American Legion Post 639 in Eldridge, where he was a member. Burial services will be held next spring at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia. Chambers Funeral Home, Eldridge, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Tim was born November 17, 1947 in Arlington, the son of William & Marie (Krupovich) Spear. He entered the United Stated Army in November of 1968 and was honorably discharged in May of 1970. On April 21, 1972 he was united in marriage to Kathleen A. Moffitt in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
Tim had been employed as a Cost Engineer and Analyst for the Nuclear Power Industry and had been employed at the Bechtel Corporation for several years. He was a proud member of the Long Grove Sportsman’s Club where he had served as secretary and treasurer. He also served as a safety steward for the Sports Car Club of America. He also had recently been elected to the city council of Long Grove.
Tim enjoyed life to its fullest and he was always ready to help out or have a friendly chat with a neighbor
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Kathy; his daughter, Kaitlin Josie Spear, of Davenport; his brothers, Bill (Sharon) Spear of Rochester, New York and Paul (Mindi) Spear of Clark Summit, Pennsylvania; his aunt, Helen Krupovich of Washington D.C.; several nieces and nephews to whom he was “Uncle Timmy”; and his beloved dog, Jasmine.
Tim was preceded in death by his parents; his sister-in-law, Bunny (Mary); and his life-long friend, Wesley Ratzel.
