Vaughn A. Carson, 86 of Bettendorf died on Monday, November 27, 2017 at his home.
Memorial services will be held at 6:00 P.M. Friday, December 1, 2017 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. until the time of services on Friday. Memorials may be made to the St. Anthony's Grief Group.
Vaughn was born on March 20, 1931 in Colchester, Illinois, the son of Asa D. and Zelma M. (Cook) Carson. He graduated from Colchester High School in 1949 as class valedictorian. He then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1951 and served a short time during the Korean War. He was united in marriage to Betty Louise (Stopp) Carson on July 26, 1952 in Macomb, Illinois. She preceded him in death on July 16, 2010.
Vaughn worked as a tool maker and machinist for 27 years at Swan Engineering and Machine in Bettendorf. He was a life member with the National Rifle Association, along with being a member at the Milan Rifle Club, and Wind Hill Cast Bullet Association.
Those left to honor his memory include his special friends, Jim (Jonell) Dean of Moline, and Douglas (Sheila) Wier of Bettendorf; and his niece, Kim (Gary) Brocker of Indianola.
Vaughn was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; and his parents.
