Velma Beerbower

Velma Mae (Koranda) Beerbower, 90, a resident of Bettendorf, passed away on Monday, September 23, 2013 at the Iowa Masonic Health Facility in Bettendorf.
Funeral services celebrating her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 27, 2013 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Burial with full military honors will be at Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services on Friday. Memorials may be made to the Velma Beerbower Memorial Fund.
Velma was born on October 11, 1922 in Oxford Junction, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Julia (Beranek) Koranda. On June 10, 1950 in Davenport, she married Harold L. Beerbower. He preceded her in death on March 15, 1979.
Velma served her country in the United States Navy during World War II.
Velma enjoyed polka dancing, fishing, crocheting and stock car racing. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes Basketball fan.Velma was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Bettendorf.
Those left to honor her memory include her son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Mary Beerbower of Moline.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one daughter, Linda Spencer; two sisters, Lillian Koranda and Frances Pahl; and two brothers, Gilbert and Emil Koranda.
