Vera Mae Brown, 96, a resident of LeClaire, Iowa passed away peacefully Sunday, January 27, 2013 at Hope Creek Rehabilitation and Nursing Home in East Moline, Illinois.
Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery in LeClaire. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Our Savior Presbyterian Church, Argo, Iowa where she was a member.
Vera was born January 9, 1917 in LeClaire, the daughter of Robert and Iva (Fletcher) Auliff. She attended Princeton Schools. She was united in marriage to James B. Lively in 1934. He preceded her in death on October 25, 1970. She later married Howard A. Brown in Davenport, Iowa on January 12, 1980. He preceded her in death February 15, 2002.
Vera lived her entire life in the LeClaire, Princeton and DeWitt area. In later years she was a snowbird, visiting Bradenton, Florida.
In addition to Our Savior Presbyterian Church she was a member of the Women of the Moose, Davenport. She loved horses and commonly rode a horse to school. She enjoyed raising chickens, her garden and flowers, dancing, playing cards and reading. She loved to cook and especially bake a beautiful pie.
Those left to honor her memory include her son, Robert “Butch” (Barb) Lively, DeWitt, Iowa; her daughters, Betty Hamilton, Eldridge, Iowa, Mary (Fred) Boley, LeClaire, Bonnie ( Ed) Mohr, Illinois and Sue (Kenneth) Oetzmann, Davenport; her grandchildren, Joni Zauhar, Robert Hamilton, Jane (Loren) Niemann, Jay (Jennifer) Hamilton, Pamela (Keith) Ellis, Steven (Becky) Boley, Lisa (Michael) Morthland, Stacey Roth, Jennifer (Jeff) Poell, Jamie (Tina) Lively, Tracey Ruge, Tim (Jennifer) Oetzmann, Jodie Wilford and Lori (David) Rupp; her great-grandchildren, Zachary (Katelyn), Rachel, and Natalie Zauhar, Lindsay and Lucas Hamilton, Hannah Niemann, Lucy and Winston Hamilton, Elizabeth (Adam) Hunter, Amanda Ellis, Mackenzie and Grant Morthland, Stephanie (Kirk) Loudy, Chase Boley, Bethany Roth, Brandon (Erin), Nathan and Courtney Poell and Zachary Lively; her great-great-grandchildren, Kaide, Brock and Bristol Loudy, Gavin and Garrett Hunter, Tyler and Casie Wilford, Kiley, Kenzie and Kayla Ruge; her sister-in-law, Iva Auliff, Princeton; her nephew, Sam Auliff; her brother-in-law, Walter Brown, LeClaire and her special friends, Cecile Carstens and Betty Burkamper.
In addition to her husbands, James and Howard she was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Alvin Auliff and her great-grandson, Levi Hamilton. May they rest in peace.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Hope Creek, especially her granddaughter, Elizabeth Hunter and Hospice Compassus for giving her such wonderful care.
