Verna Denger

Verna L. Denger, 96, a resident of Davenport, Iowa died on Sunday, November 3, 2019 at Manor Care Nursing Center in Moline, Illinois.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, November 9, 2019 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf.  Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park.  Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. on Saturday at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to the Davenport Central High School Foundation, the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital or the First Evangelical Free Church of Moline where she was a member.

She was born on September 12, 1923 in Princeton, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Ivah (Chandler) Stewart.  On November 20, 1945, she married Richard L. Denger in LeClaire, Iowa.  He preceded her in death on April 11, 1993.

Verna was employed at the Petersen Harned-Von Maur in Davenport, retiring in 2002 after 25 years of faithful service.

She will always be remembered as a person who dearly loved family, especially her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Those left to honor her memory include her daughter, Beth Denger-Shaw of Davenport; her grandchildren, Sara (Casey) Meyer, Elizabeth (Bill) Sabel, Tony (Karin) Black, Andrea (Aaron) Butikofer, Alison (Kevin) Preslan, Amanda (Chad) Christensen and Kaylee (Ryan) Baumer; her great-grandchildren, Jaelyn, Isaac, Drew, Xander, Shelby, Aubrey, Finley, Walker, Reagan, Will and Kennedy; and her daughter-in-law, Betty Denger of Davenport.

In addition to her husband, Verna was preceded in death by her son, Richard S. “Rick” Denger; her daughter, Dawn Black; and her sister, Evelyn Francis.

The family extends their special thanks to Heartland Hospice, Heartland Manor Care and the Kahl Home for their tender and loving care shown to Verna.
