Verna M. Dunbar, 84, of Bettendorf, Iowa, passed away on Monday, August 8, 2016 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf.

Funeral Services & Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, August 12, 2016 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Bettendorf.  Visitation will be on Thursday evening from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf.  Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery in Rock Island, Illinois.  Memorials may be made to St. John Vianney Catholic Church, the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House or the Strive D.D. Facility in Prophetstown, Illinois.  Verna was born August 3, 1932 in St. Peter, Minnesota, the only child of Ralph J. & Mabel (Meyer) Muellerleile and attended high school in Louisville, Kentucky.  She was united in marriage to Olin E. Dunbar on June 12, 1954 in Louisville.  He preceded her in death on October 23, 2008.

A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Verna was an Avon representative and cub scout den mother for several years.  She enjoyed bowling, music and dancing, reading, sewing and playing cards.  Her greatest joy was her time spent with her beloved family and friends.

Those left to honor Verna’s memory include her daughter, Mary Lewis of Moline, Illinois; her sons, Michael (Anne) Dunbar of Prophetstown, Illinois, James (Linda) Dunbar of Plano, Texas, John Dunbar of Bettendorf and Paul (Amy) Dunbar of Riverside, Iowa; her grandchildren, Michael, Steven, Brandi, Christine, Emily, John, Richard, Joe, William, Troy (Jamie) and Margo; eleven great-grandchildren; and several special nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Olin, Verna was preceded in death by her parents; and her son-in-law, James A. Lewis.
