Verna A. Arp, 83, of rural LeClaire, Iowa, died Tuesday, September 6, 2005 at her home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, September 9, 2005 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Pleasant Valley, Iowa, where she was a member.. Visitation will be from 3:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday evening at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Davenport. Memorials may be made to the LeClaire Ambulance Service or to the church.
Verna was born November 13, 1921 in Davenport, Iowa, the daughter of Carl & Annie (Koch) Claussen. She was united in marriage to LaVerne J. Arp on May 20, 1942 in Davenport, Iowa. He preceded her in death on April 19, 1983.
Verna farmed all her life alongside her husband. She milked the cows on the farm daily. She was a leader of 4-H and was a member of the Liedertafel club. She was also a member of the Bettendorf Senior Citizens.
Verna enjoyed cooking, experimenting with new recipes, canning and gardening.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughter, Evalea McBride, of Bettendorf; her sons and daughters-in-law, DuWayne & Sandra Arp, of Durango, Iowa and Melvin “Butch” & Kathleen Arp, of LeClaire; her grandchildren, Heidi McBride, Erin Lounsberry and her husband, Adam, Amy Wachter, and her husband, Paul, and Sean McBride; her great-grandson, Joshua McBride; her brother and sister-in-law, Henry & Jeanette Claussen, of Bettendorf; her sisters-in-law, Eileen Clausssen, of Davenport, Dorothy Claussen, of Bettendorf, Betty Claussen, of LeClaire, and Ethel Arp, of Bettendorf.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; her son Kenneth; her sister, Helen; her brothers, Albert, Elmer, and Arnold Claussen; and her brother-in-law, Harry Arp.
