Verna M. Unwin, 90, a resident of LeClaire, Iowa died on Friday, April 17, 2009 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus in Davenport, Iowa.
Her funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Monday, April 20, 2009 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel in Bettendorf, Iowa. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery, LeClaire. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the LeClaire Civic Center.
She was born June 9, 1918 in DeKalb, Illinois, the daughter of Albert & Clara May (Leonard) Rylander. On May 24, 1941, she was united in marriage to Richard V. Unwin in Kahoka, Missouri.
Verna was a devoted homemaker, wife & mother. Her memberships included the 1st Presbyterian Church of LeClaire, the Buffalo Bill Museum, the Buffalo Bill American Legion Auxillary and the LeClaire Civic Center where she was an avid volunteer for many years.
She enjoyed feeding the birds, loved to travel and treasured the times spent with her beloved family.
Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Richard, a resident of the Iowa Masonic Health Facility of Bettendorf; her daughters, Sue (Ken) Asay of Bettendorf, Marcia Unwin of Bettendorf and Betty (Dan) Brieser of LeClaire; her special daughter, Chelle Mannhardt of Bettendorf; her sons, Jerry (Judy) Unwin of LeClaire and Tom Unwin of LeClaire; eleven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and her brother, Charles (Sophie) Rylander of Oglesby, Illinois.
Verna was preceded in death by her sister, Nina Weaver; her brother, William “Bill” Rylander; and her grandson, Scott Littrel.
