Vernard F. Lyons

Vernard F. Lyons, 79, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died Friday, April 23, 2004 at Trinity at Terrace Park Hospital, Bettendorf.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, April 28, 2004 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home. Contributions in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association.
Vernard was born April 10, 1925 in Centerville, Iowa, the son of Wilbur & Opal (Johnson) Lyons. On March 11, 1950, he was united in marriage to Rosa M. Dommer in Centerville.
He worked for the Bettendorf School System at Lincoln Elementary, Jefferson Elementary, Bettendorf High School and finally at Armstrong Elementary, retiring in 1987 after 33 years of faithful service.
In his leisure time, he loved to go fishing and enjoyed hunting.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Rosa; his brothers-in-law, Nyle Dommer of Muscatine, Iowa and Dean Dommer & his wife, Nita of Eldridge, Iowa; his nieces, Nyla Dommer, Jeanette Farrier, Linda Robinson & Kathy Pulse; his nephew, Michael Bridgman; and many grand-nieces, grand-nephews & cousins.
Vernard was preceded in death by his sister, Ruth Lee Bridgman; his brother, Thomas; and his parents.
