Verne G. Miller, 83, a resident of Bettendorf, died Saturday, December 16, 2017 at UnityPoint Trinity Bettendorf.
Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Burial will be at Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be on Tuesday, December 19th from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Quad City Animal Welfare Center.
Born on December 31, 1933 in Jackson County, Iowa, Verne was the son of Verne Glendale, Sr. and Marjorie (Hardin) Miller. On April 2, 1955, he married Violet Miller. Verne served his country in the United States Army from 1955 – 1957.
Verne worked for Hydraxtor Company in Moline for 18 years. He then became a custodian for Bettendorf High School, working for 22 years. Verne enjoyed golfing, bowling, yard work. He loved watching sports, especially high school football, college athletics, and the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Violet; sons, Doug Miller of Hudson, Florida and Scot (Donna) Miller of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Derek, Curtis, Jessica, and Bailey; and a sister, Jo Ann Miller of Maquoketa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers and one sister.
