Vernia E. “Vern” Jewell, 80, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died Friday, May 4, 2012 at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 A.M. on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Jack’s Cemetery, LeClaire, Iowa. Memorials may be made to Beacon of Hope Hospice, Davenport, Iowa.
Vern was born on November 8, 1931 in Little Rock, Arkansas the son of Eddie D. and Anna F. (Rubemeyer) Jewell.
He worked for many years at J. I. Case Company, Bettendorf. He retired from the Laborer's Union Local 309, Rock Island, Illinois after many years of service.
He enjoyed reading western novels, fishing, swimming and gardening.
Those left to honor his memory include his daughters, Valerie “Lynn” Jewell-Walker, Columbia, Missouri, Teresa (Dave) Ahrens, Buffalo, Iowa, Vicki Jewell-Fitzgerald, Bettendorf, Iowa and Debbie Jewell-Serrano, Davenport, Iowa; his sons, Ed Jewell, Promise City, Iowa, Billy Jewell, East Moline, Illinois, Larry (Sarah) Jewell, Iowa City, Iowa, Vincent Jewell, Bettendorf, Iowa, Darren (Shawn) Jewell, Bettendorf, Iowa and Danny (Andrea) Jewell, West Chester, Ohio; twenty-six grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; his sisters, Abba Duett, Davenport, Iowa and Peggy Mallate, Canon City, Colorado and his brother, Bob (Ella) Jewell, Springfield, Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mary Elizabeth (Gill) Jewell, his sister, Viola, his brother, Raymond and his granddaughter, Erika Jewell.
