Vernon C. Smith

Vernon C. Smith, 82, a resident of Palmer Hills Retirement Residence, Bettendorf, Iowa died Tuesday, March 02, 2004 at his home.
Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. Friday, March 5, 2004 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf where a prayer service will be held at 2:00 P.M.. Private family interment will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Genesis Hospice Care VNA.
Vernon was born June 3, 1921 in Cedar County, Iowa, the son of Guy W. & Alpha (Chandler) Smith. On November 4, 1944, he was united in marriage to Esther E. Annis in Ada, Minnesota.
He was employed in the shear room at the Alcoa Company, retiring in 1982 after 30 years of faithful service.
He was a former member of the 1st Assembly of God Church in Bettendorf.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Esther; his daughter & son-in-law, Diane K. & Doyle Jones of Peoria, Illinois; his son, Vernon C. Smith Jr., of Davenport; his grandchildren, Brian Jones & his wife, Ranessa, Gary Jones and Karen Putzler & her husband, Jake; his sister, Darlene of Sierra Vista, Arizona; his brothers & sister-in-law, Alvin R. & Janice Smith of Bettendorf and Dewayne C. Smith of Leclaire, Iowa; and his sisters-in-law, Bessie Smith of LeClaire and Ardis Smith of Bettendorf.
Vern was preceded in death by his brothers, Gale, Vearl & Lyle; and by his parents.
