Vernon F. Fahrenkrog, 68, a resident of Eldridge, Iowa, died on Thursday, January 15, 2009 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, Iowa.
His funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, January 19, 2009 at Our Savior Presbyterian Church of Argo, Iowa. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Sunday at the Chambers Funeral Home, Eldridge. Memorials may be made to the family for donations to the family’s favorite charities.
Vernon Frank Fahrenkrog was born September 10, 1940 in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Frank & Gertrude (Koch) Fahrenkrog and was a graduate of Davenport High School. On July 16, 1960, he was united in marriage to Joanne I. Mess at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Davenport.
Vern was the Superintendent of Roads in Scott County for 24 years, retiring in 2002. In earlier years, he was a motor grader operator for the Scott County Road Department for 19 years. During his work with the county, he also farmed near Maysville, Iowa for many years.
His memberships included Our Savior Presbyterian Church where he also served as an Elder and he formerly served as a Trustee of Summit Presbyterian Church in rural Scott County. In addition, he was a member of CASI and a former member & board member of the Donahue Sportsman’s Club where he was an avid member of the Over 30 Baseball League.
Vern enjoyed playing cards with his family & friends, dancing with his beloved wife, Joanne, fishing, golfing, bowling and his regular get-togethers with his friends for coffee. Above all, his children & grandchildren were the joy of his life and he loved the times he spent with them.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Joanne; his daughters, Eileen Gevers of Dixon, Iowa, Lisa (Brian) Holst of Eldridge and Sheryl (Jeff) Geerts of Clive, Iowa; his grandchildrern, Ashley & Sarah Whitaker and Kyle & Kayla Geerts; his step-grandchildren, Abby, Danica & Courtney Holst; his brother, Walter (Jan) Fahrenkrog of Eldridge; and many other relatives and wonderful friends.
Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; his son-in-law, Andy Gevers; and his daughter, Linda Fahrenkrog.
