Vinson Ramsey

May 1, 1940 — April 17, 2016

Vinson L. “Vince” Ramsey, 75, a resident of LeClaire, Iowa died on Sunday, April 17, 2016 at the Clarissa Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf.

Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Friday, April 22 2016 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home of Bettendorf.  A Masonic service will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Friday with a Christian funeral service to follow.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shriner’s Hospitals for Children or the Clarissa Cook Hospice House.

He was born in Mystic, Iowa on May 1, 1940, the son of Ira Vinson & Gladys Edith (Beardsley) Ramsey.  On June 30, 1958, he was united in marriage to Barbara Metcalf in Providence, Rhode Island.  Barbara preceded him in death on October 10, 1989.

Vince retired from the John Deere Harvester Works of East Moline, Illinois where he was employed as a welder for many years.  An accomplished commercial artist, Vince also owned & operated Signs by Vince Ramsey in LeClaire. In addition, he also owned & operated Ramsey’s Bait and Tackle in LeClaire for many years.

Always willing to lend a hand, Vince served on the LeClaire Volunteer Fire Department for a number of years, was a member of the Glendale Cemetery Board, a member of the Buffalo Museum Board and served on the LeClaire City Council as well.  He was also a former member and past Master of Snow Masonic Lodge of LeClaire and was a current member of Lyons Masonic Lodge of Clinton, Iowa.

Vince loved caring for his flower garden behind his home and enjoyed the companionship of his loyal canine companion, “Shelby.”

Those left to honor his memory include his daughter, Cherie (Dave) Parrott of Greensboro, North Carolina; his son, Vince (Nikki) Ramsey of LeClaire; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; his sisters, Mary in Michigan and Darlynn in Missouri; his brother, Howard in Missouri; and many other relatives and wonderful friends.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by nine sisters and brothers; and by his parents.
