Viola E. Engler, 92, a resident of Donahue, Iowa died on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at the Clarissa Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, Iowa.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at the Park View Lutheran Church in Park View, Iowa where she was a member. She will be laid to rest at Allen’s Grove Cemetery in rural Donahue. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Friday at the Chambers Funeral Home of Eldridge and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church. Memorials may be made to the Clarissa Cook Hospice House, Park View Lutheran Church or the Donahue Volunteer Fire Department.
Viola E. Untiedt was born on June 5, 1922 in rural Donahue, the daughter of Delbert & Almeda (Meier) Untiedt. She married Harvey J. Engler on August 27, 1941 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Davenport. He preceded her in death on November 22, 2000.
She actively farmed with her husband and son in rural Donahue until her retirement when she moved to the Grand Haven Retirement Community in Eldridge where she resided the past seven years. Her favorite part of helping on the farm was driving the baler during hay season. Viola was an avid card player and had enjoyed traveling and square dancing with her husband.
Viola was the mother of three children, Roger (Sandy) Engler of Blue Springs, Missouri, Shirley (Dick) Peer of Mission, Texas and Larry Engler of Donahue and daughter-in-law, Mary Lou Engler of Eldridge; She was also the proud grandmother of five, Jeffrey (Judy) Peer, Janeen (Ed) Bober, Jerold Engler, Dean (Lisa) Peer and Amy (Randy) Nelson and the great-grandmother of seven, Samantha (Brian) Yakle, Wesley Peer, Spencer Bober, Addie & Jenna Peer and Jakob & Courtney Nelson.
In addition to her husband, Viola was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother, Henry.
