Viola M. Hayes, 73, of Bettendorf, died Friday, June 25, 2004 at her home, surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Monday, June 28, 2004 at First Baptist Church, Bettendorf, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 8 P.M. on Sunday at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. There will be an additional visitation from 5 to 6 P.M. on Monday at Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Chapel, Princeton, Missouri. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Lineville, Iowa. Memorials may be made to the family.
Viola was born on April 7, 1931 in Decatur, Iowa, the daughter of Donald & Millie (Showers) Petty. She was united in marriage to Lyle L. Hayes on July 10, 1949 in Leon, Iowa. She was employed at the former Brix Cleaners in Davenport, Iowa, Arlens in Bettendorf, and she also sold Beeline Clothes out of her home for a number of years.
Viola was a devout and active member of First Baptist Church in Bettendorf, where she taught Sunday school for 40 years. She also babysat for many years. She loved children and helped raise many children, including her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her other interests included cooking, quilting, embroidery, flowers and gardening.
Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Lyle; her daughter and son-in-law, Pauletta & Willie Geiger, Satellite Beach, Florida; her grandchildren, Brook Danielson, Mandy Hayes, Jessica Kadlec, Brian Dahms-Geiger, & Deanna Geiger; her great-grandchildren, Bobby, Tucker, and MacKenna Danielson; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Harold & Winnie Petty, Lineville, and Wilbur & Glada Petty , Clio, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her son, Lyle Eugene Hayes, on November 18, 1990, and by her brother, Kenneth Perry.
